The Super Falcons of Nigeria are on the verge of qualifying to the next round of the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, following a 3 – 2 win over Australia, but Assisat Oshoala’s goal celebration took the shine off the win.
Assisat Oshoala, who was stripped of her captaincy in 2022, scored in the 72nd minute of the game, after coming on from the bench, to give Nigeria the edge against it’s counterpart, as she took off her clothes in wild celebrations.
Nigerians have responded, as some didn’t read meaning to it since she wore a sports bra under her shirt, while others were of the opinion that children also watch the sports, and it not right for her to do such.
Tomorrow, we would take a look at the few women football stars who couldn’t control their emotions, as they took off their shirts to celebrate.
The Barcelona femeni striker becomes the first African player to score at three seperate editions of the competition, following her debut World Cup goal in 2015 against Sweden; and she scored again in 2019 against South Korea; and now in 2023 against Australia.
Nigeria are at the top of Group B with 4 points, and they need just one point from the last group game against the Republic of Ireland to make it to the second round.
